The present work addresses the issue of governance and sustainability by anchoring them to ethics as self-governance. Its discussion is arranged in five chapters, beginning with tadbīr as a pivotal term which projects the Islamic concept of governance, before proceeding to reintroduce the circular order of governance (dāʾirat al-siyāsah) vis-à-vis the pyramidal structure of governance. The order secures a special position for the natural world and with that, the discussion continues to deal with such critical issues related to sustainability as climate change, environmental degradation and biodiversity loss. In so doing, it offers some good lessons and insightful solutions.
