WARNING: using this book can become addictive--you may find yourself taking the complete Bible journey--one day at a time—again and again. Finish the entire Bible in a year or less using these daily readings and reflections. Here are all the great stories, prayers, quotations, poetry, heroes and villains that make the Bible so special. There are also excerpts from dozens of Bible commentators, from Augustine to Martin Luther to Pope Benedict XVI. The author's role is that of a traveler, a lay person learning from the experts, and occasionally disagreeing with them. Also included are themes from Shakespeare, Mark Twain, Gandhi, Dickens, and many others, where they seem to fit. To get the full benefit requires about 10-20 minutes of reading each day. When you finish you will have covered 73 Bible books; 27 in the New Testament and 46 in the Old Testament (including Apocrypha if you wish). Like the old Alka-Seltzer ad, you will be able to say, “I can’t believe I read the whole thing!” There are stories of love, devotion, high adventure, great heroism, amazing creatures on sea and land, princes, queens, kings and patriarchs, colossal battles far more grand than anything in the movies and some of the world’s best-known poetry. The stories of Jesus are at the center of everything—you can get to know this great man through the gospels and epistles and the prophets and psalms he loved to quote.
