In D.W. Adcock's short story, "A Good Death," Walter Hertz is a doctor. In his world, where overpopulation has made life unlivable, doctors facilitate death rather than save lives. Alice Maujer is an actress, one of many celebrities who've become artists of propaganda intent on selling the nobility of suicide. Alice and Walter meet young and fall in love, but Alice leaves him for a Life-Sympathizer, known only as Romeo, who understands her guilt. While Walter goes on to found Eu Thanatos Suicide Colony, a luxury resort where only the richest may kill themselves, Alice and Romeo struggle to create art that offers people hope. When Romeo is found dead, the lives of Alice and Walter collide again. Alice shows up at Eu Thanatos and asks Walter to help her experience “A Good Death.”
